BEST OF 2013

Happy New Year everybody! We are continuing the tradition of asking our artists to select their favorite work from 2013. This year we have a fantastic collection with a little something for everybody: newspaper pieces for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post; magazine work for Rolling Stone, Time, Scientific American, and American Lawyer; images for university pubs such as Harvard and Seattle University; book covers for Knopf and Thames and Hudson; interesting posters for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and USA Soccer, plus a couple of award winners from the Society of Illustrators. DANIEL HERTZBERG: BEHIND THE SCENES AT BRYANT PARK

Daniel Hertzberg had the amazing honor to work with Hill Holiday on branding and illustrating this year’s Bank of America’s Winter Village at Bryant Park. His illustrations were used for entry pillars throughout the park, dasher boards that surrounded the ice rink, light towers, entrance gates, barricade covers, and numerous promotional materials, including Bryant Park’s website, banners along 42^nd Street and a major ad in Times Square.  Make sure to check out his work if you’re in New York, the rink will be open until March, and it’s free admission--We can’t think of a better combination!

The New York Public Library is in the background with various layered buildings. 

The buildings in the background were based on a row of apartments that Daniel saw while he was in Harlem. 

Daniel wanted to give off the sensation that the Winter Village was the warmest, happiest place in Manhattan. Daniel purchased figures from stock image sites and used a lot of his own photography, including elements of Bryant Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, and Yankee Stadium to name a few. His photos of the park were taken during the summer. Daniel put his own winter touch by adding snow to the lamp posts and chairs.

The Bank of America Building (at the corner of 42nd Street and 6th Ave.) had to be prominently featured. 

Fun Fact: The trees at Bryant Park are London planes, which had to be shown as well.
