Every year we anxiously await the arrival of the Communication Arts Illustration Annual. Talent practically spills off the pages so it's no wonder we are extremely proud to announce that in the 2012 edition, Nigel Buchanan and Anthony Freda received awards in the editorial category. Producing top shelf work year after year, Nigel and Anthony are seasoned masters of their craft, and undeniably deserve this prestigious accolade. AND THE ADDY GOES TO...

In a World Wide Web of short attention spans, what better way to get minds and stomachs zeroed in on your product than an interactive online game? Brian Biggs worked with Red Door Interactive to create this Addy award winning campaign, "Rubio's Chase the Taste: The Return of The Original Fish Taco® Game". The objective: search through the massive crowd to find The Original Fish Tacos®, Rubio's chef, Ralph, and other hidden goodies. A drawing for the chance to win $2,500 and several iPads was an added incentive for the players. In addition, coupons for a free fish taco were issued to everyone who played.

In our humble opinion, the Communication Arts illustration annual is the most prestigious of the juried competitions. The readership and jurors represent all the facets of the communication community, and actual assignments are a frequent result. With that in mind, we are extremely proud to announce that ten of our artists were selected for this year's annual, in virtually every category except animation. While each illustrator has a decidedly unique style, they all share a commitment to quality and originality. It is a true honor to be associated with such an extraordinarily talented group. STEPHANIE DALTON COWAN'S AWARD WINNING PIECE!

 

Stephanie Dalton Cowan's latest illustration won a Grand Gold award in the "Photography & Illustration" category in the 2011 CASE <http://www.case.org/>  District VIII Communication Awards! The award winner was the two-page spread for Brian Volck's essay "When Doctors Tell Tales" in the Autumn 2010 issue of Response magazine.

Here are the judges' comments:

 "The illustrative, layering image really helps tell the story: how doctors need to see more than skin and bone, but the whole person and big picture. The use of script, colors, and other effects made it feel very warm and inviting. We like the punch of the stethoscope as well. Flowers and bones, an interesting mix. It's the full package supporting the article and interpreting the piece as well."
